It's been a while! Happy to be back! From the time of our last published post to today's, we moved into a new apartment in Inwood, Manhattan - and exactly one year later, moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. 2015 had its own set of challenges, as did most of 2016, but things are looking up, settling down, and we're excited to start building and solidifying a little slice of home in Florida (for a while)! The idea to bring the site back made a lot of sense. This was a fun way to document our first year of marriage, and although we're no longer newlyweds, we wanted to document this new chapter. But with a twist! Coming from NYC, completely jaded about having incredible food at our fingertips, we were really surprised to see how seriously South Florida takes its food, restaurants, and all things locally brewed (the coffee shops and breweries are no joke). We started a list of all of the places we wanted to try, but forced ourselves to reel it in (we moved here for a job Tom secured - the other one of us is still looking)! So this time around, we thought it would be fun to scout local restaurant menus that we're excited to try and attempt one of their signature recipes. This week, we decided to start with a dish served at a tiny hole-in-the-wall in Fort Lauderdale that's gotten rave reviews from everyone in our building - the Broccoli, Leek, & Gorgonzola Pie from Hardy Park Bistro. We followed this similar recipe and, not exaggerating, it ended up being one of the tastiest dishes we've ever made.

We actually made the puff pastry ourselves versus buying it frozen. We'd never worked with this kind of dough before and it was kind of tricky (very wet). But it paid off and tasted unreal. Should note that it's loaded with like three sticks of butter, so no wonder. We also only used one head of broccoli - the recipe called for two, but it seemed like way too much. (But, of course, we found three sticks of butter completely acceptable, ugh).
